Gender Identity and Sexual Orientation
Genesis 1:27 “God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.”
Rivertree Academy understands that gender identity and sexual orientation are sensitive and complex topics for students and families. In accordance with our Statement of Faith and our belief in the interpretation of Genesis 1:27, we believe that all children are created in God’s image. We believe that each individual’s biological sex and unique identity is shaped by His wisdom and His divine plan. We also affirm that heterosexuality is God’s plan and order.
The words from Psalms 139:13 remind us of God’s intimate involvement in our creation: “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.”
In accordance with these principles, our approach is to address and treat all students based on the gender determined biologically at their birth. This policy applies to all students enrolled at Rivertree Academy and to all aspects of school life, including attire, bathroom usage, sports participation and the use of pronouns. Students not adhering to this policy, while at school, will be considered in violation of our code of conduct.
This policy coincides with our Code of Conduct Policy that addresses behavioral and academic standards and expectations.
As a missional private school, we are committed to providing a loving and supportive environment for all students and their families. We believe that every individual should feel valued and respected within our community; and we aim to love one another as Christ loves us, upholding our Christian values and beliefs, while showing love and compassion to all. We will exercise patient understanding of and compassion for all students struggling with any issue of sexuality or gender identity.
