Position Title: Middle Grades STEAM, Science & Social Studies Teacher

Reports To: Head of Curriculum & Instruction

THE PLAN: 

Rivertree Academy Lake Como is an Elementary Day School in Como - an under resourced community in Fort Worth, Texas. Pre-K through 6th grade students will be accepted into this accredited program. 

JOB SUMMARY: 

The Middle Grades  STEAM, Science, and Social Studies Teacher provides biblically-based, engaging instruction through a project-based learning (PBL) model. This role integrates STEAM, scientific inquiry, and social studies concepts into real-world learning experiences that develop the whole child. Students will participate in weekly city-based excursions to interview experts and investigate cross-curricular connections.

EXPECTED SKILLS: 

Instruction & Curriculum:

  • Use differentiated, student-centered instruction.

  • Deliver TEKS-aligned Science and Social Studies lessons.

  • Design STEAM-integrated and PBL units.

  • Incorporated DOK levels, vocabulary, and collaborative strategies.

PBL & STEAM Integration:

  • Guide students through inquiry, research, design, and presentation.

  • Create real-world, authentic learning experiences.

  • Support student showcases and presentations.

Assessment & Data:

  • Use pre, formative, and summative assessments.

  • Analyze data to drive instruction.

  • Provide timely feedback.

Classroom Environment:

  • Maintain a safe, structured classroom.

  • Promote positive behavior and student leadership.

  • Support students academically and emotionally.

Communication & Collaboration:

  • Communicate with parents and staff.

  • Maintain records and grades.

  • Collaborate on interdisciplinary planning.

Faith Integration:

  • Integrate Biblical worldview into instruction.

  • Model Christian values.

  • Follow Matthew 18 principles.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Lead field experiences and nature walks.

  • Support PBL initiatives schoolwide.

COMPETENCIES: 

  • To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies: 

  • Attendance/Punctuality - Consistently be at work and on time. Prepare thorough lesson plans and sub instructions for days absent from work. Arrive at meetings and appointments on time. Attend and participate in scheduled devotions, staff development sessions, and after school meetings as set by the administration.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.

  • Certification preferred (or obtained within 2 years).

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 2 years teaching preferred.

  • Experience with PBL/STEAM strongly preferred.
